The "St James Focus" issue number 14 Talks about the failed bid by the SJRA to get floodlights in Victoria Park. It talks about how important that the Floodlights would be for the park and how the park could be used in the winter far more then it is now. However that once again the article fails to mention that it was the Borough Council who turned down our bid. Even though the article emphasises how without the floodlights youths are forced to roam the streets In St James. Also that while the SJRA bid was turned down the Borough Council believe that spending 30k on a new band stand is money better spent, I will leave it up to you to decide.

It was interesting to read in the last edition of the "St James Focus" that the St James Library Closure was talked about still being under threat. This is of course very true and the SJRA continues to fight the closure. However the one thing that the "St James Focus" failed to mention was that when the Borough Council was asked to reduce or remove the rent on the premises they refused point blank.

Why does the Borough Council staff never answer the phone!

10/03/11 - Tried to contact the local Estate manager to see why the Borough Council have removed all the plants from the back of Flats 1-9 Buckle House without contacting the residents to let them know why this is happening or for the residents input, but i was let with a phone that just rang. I finally was given the chance to get through to the duty officer, but guess what......... that's right it just rang with no answer. What a truly poor service this current administration of the Borough Council gives its residents. Why do residents pay for landscaping when the Borough Council are removing everything. Why has the rents gone up around £4 when this administration is doing less and less all the time?

Forgotten St James

It seems that St James is one of the areas always being over looked by both the Borough Council (Lib Dem) and the County Council (Con). It is time that both Councils understood that St James is not just a gateway into the town but is a thriving community. However this is being destroyed by an uncaring Borough and County Council and their lack of urgency to do anything. This chairman took a half hour out of his day and had a small walk about in just one area of St James and was horrified to find, bushes overgrown, roads crumbling making them very dangerous for residents, Garages in need of repair, fly tipping, tree roots lifting paths making them a real hazard for residents, and signs of alcohol abuse on the increase again even though we are getting more shops selling cheap alcohol in the area, and not forgetting an ever ongoing problem, graffiti. Oh did I forget to mention that these problems were highlighted to the Council during an estate walk about months ago, but once again they have failed in their duty and responsibility to act on these problems. Both Councils are always asking for feedback well here is mine, poor and shameful are the words I choose to call our Councils. I will continue to walk around St James showing all residents the poor service they get from their Councils.
