Draft Budget for 2012/13

Dear Resident

Our draft Budget for 2012/13 has been approved for consultation. The Council needs to make some tough decisions . The  national economy remains in a period of downturn and instability and is likely to be so for the foreseeable future.  This has had repercussions locally on both residents and businesses . By giving us your views, you will help us understand how our proposals may affect you and our communities so that we can consider whether and how we can mitigate, if possible, the impact of any changes we introduce.   Full Council will set its budget in February 2012.

How to take part:

  • Completing an online survey (available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/nbcbudget2012 )
  • Attending our Question Time event on 26 January 2012 at 18:30  hrs in the Great Hall, Guildhall, Northampton where you will be able to ask questions to a panel of senior councillors and officers. If you would like to just attend but not ask a question, this is absolutely fine.  To book (which is recommended)  , click here.
This consultation closes on  31 January 2012. The budget will be discussed at the Council meeting on 29 February 2012.

Please  check our website for additional activity on www.northampton.gov.uk/budget2012  and  feel free to forward this onto anybody else who you think may have an interest in this issue.  Do let us know if you have any problems accessing our survey.

Beware of car park salesmen bearing 'gifts'

The Financial Crime Team are warning members of the public to keep their wits about them this Christmas time if they stumble across any car park salesmen bearing 'gifts'.

The team has dealt with three incidents in Northampton car parks where people have exchanged cash with salesmen for goods that turned out to be not what they seemed.

Victims have parted with money thinking they were buying items like a laptop or a mobile phone only realising, on closer inspection once the transaction had taken place, that the bag containing these so-called items in fact contained items like potatoes or old books.

PC Liam O'Neill, of the Financial Crime Team, said: "With Christmas soon upon us, it is timely to remind members of the public to be on their guard when out shopping.
