Campbell Square public ‘enquiry desk’ to move to the Guildhall

A new public-facing police ‘enquiry desk’ will be opening at the Guildhall in Northampton next month.

From Saturday, 1 February, the new police desk at the Guildhall will replace the existing enquiry desk at Campbell Square police station.

The move to the Guildhall is an opportunity to bring together the service currently provided by police staff at Campbell Square with other local services offered by Northampton Borough Council, creating a ‘One Stop Shop’ for the public. All enquiries from the public, including reporting crime, producing driving documents or reporting lost property, will be made at the Guildhall.

The new office will be open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

District commander for Northampton, Superintendent Mick Stamper, says the move aims to give those who live, work and shop in Northampton with a modern, welcoming ‘front of house’ police office in the centre of Northampton’s busy shopping area.

“The new police desk at the Guildhall means we will be in the centre of town and therefore more accessible for people who need to visit a police station or want information or advice. By being in the same place as the borough council, we can more easily draw on the expertise of council staff and make sure people get the most appropriate help and advice.

“We get a lot of enquiries where we need to direct people to the council for further help and support, such as problems with noisy neighbours or housing issues. Being together in the same location will make it much easier for people to get that additional help as they’ll simply have to move to another part of the Guildhall rather than walk across town.

“There has been a police desk in the Guildhall previously and it has been well used. The new desk will be bigger, with more staff and will be open for longer, from 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 4pm on Sunday.

“The environment at the Guildhall is much more modern and welcoming, not only providing a more pleasant environment for those needing policing services but also ensuring a better working environment for our staff.” Read more
